Have you heard? Provo Craft has come out with a new universal keypad overlay that will work with the original Cricut®v1 or baby bug as some of us called it, Cricut Create®, and Cricut Expression® machines.

NewCricutOverlayFront

You will need to purchase the universal keypad overlay separately to use with any cartridge launched after August 1, 2013. Provo Craft says that because the universal overlay works with all new cartridges, there’s just one overlay to learn, organize, and store to save space—instead of a specific overlay for every cartridge. Which means they are no longer providing a cartridge specific overlay with the new cartridges.

Opinions on this overlay change:

I am not sure how much room this will actually be saving anyone but I guess some people will like it. After to speaking with some other die hard Cricut fans, some think this is just a way for Cricut to transition customers to want to use Cricut Craftroom instead of actually using the cartridges manually on their machines.  Others thought the new universal overlay was a good idea so they could just leave the overlay on their Cricut machine and not have to worry about loosing it or having to switch it out all the time with another.  What do you think?

One good thing to note is that if you are missing an overlay for an existing Cricut cartridge you can buy one of these universal overlays and just mark your booklet to match up with the keypad and you are back in business 😀

MSRP is $2.99 +shipping on the Cricut website.

Another shopping option for you:

Terri at Stamps Alive has these for sale on her site for only $2.25 + shipping.                  I have personally shopped with Terri for years. She always offers great prices and fast shipping.  To order you would email her at : stampsalive@cox.net with a list of what you want after you look at her blog where she lists items for sale and your zip code.  (There is no shopping cart on her site.).  Tell her I sent you, if you don’t mind.  I don’t get anything from it but she likes to track where her customers come from.

If you make a project, I’d love to see it! Please share in our Facebook Group Community where you will find others sharing their projects, tips and inspiration.

  1. I haven’t seen the new overlay yet, but it sounds like a good idea. I like that I won’t have to change the overlay each time I switch cartridges. But, what does the new booklet look like? I’m hoping the pictures are big enough that I can see the details so that I know how to place the tiny pieces.
